Journey to the Cross

Lent is about Jesus following his call – a call that ultimately leads to the cross. The Lenten season is a time of reflection and repentance for those of us striving to follow Jesus on his journey. A simple, stark rendering of the cross seems appropriate. The style and colors evoke the image of ashes, and the use of plain muslin as a canvas is consistent with the feeling of humble simplicity.
Nancy Livengood and Nancy Langham collaborated on the design and painting of this banner.

And He Loved Her Anyway

The new art hanging on the left this week depicts the encounter that Jesus has with the woman at the well, from John 4:1-30.
At our retreat last weekend, the women of Kairos delved into this passage and discovered that even though Jesus knew all about this woman, including her shameful behaviors, he loved her anyway.
To deepen the spiritual experience, we wrote phrases about our own stories and Jesus' love on colored pieces of paper. With guidance from Nancy Langham, we glued these slips of paper on the banner to create this illustration.
By displaying this image in our place of worship, we have a visual reminder of our powerful time together as women of Kairos whom God loves.

For the Healing of the Nation

The wall hanging in the sanctuary is by Nancy Livengood, and was inspired by Rev 22:2:
On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.

Nancy felt called to paint this image after hearing a sermon that spoke to this message:
As followers of Jesus, we are called to be agents of healing. The Lord will use us as we pursue relationships with people who think differently from us, listen to them with humility, and be people of prayer.
